18th Annual Tecate SCORE San Felipe 250
Feb. 28, 2004-San Felipe, Baja California, Mexico
Race Day Quotes

First Place Class 22
1x Steve Hengeveld/Johnny Campbell

Campbell: It went good. It was a lot of fun this time. The rain made the wash wet. It made it a little different than the dry sand and rock. It made it easier to get through the terrain. We weren’t so scared. Steve was good out there-he gave me a good lead. So I could concentrate and ride with no pressure. The only problem was that we melted the nozzle off the tire near the dry lakebed. We changed the wheel. Nice cushions so we had time. I feel good that we are done before lunchtime. When it is a comfortable lead the rider can ride safer, especially on the rough course. When you have a lead you don’t want to jeopardize so if you back off 5-10% you are less likely to make a mistake. No sense in taking a risk if you don’t have to.

First Place Class 40
400x Jim O’Neal/Jeff Kaplan/Tim Withers/Louie Franco

Kaplan: We had a big lead and stayed pretty consistent. We didn’t have a good start-people got by us. It got tight after someone got hurt. It was rough but fun. The course was about the same as last year but not as rough. It was an unbelievable bike…awesome.

First Place Class 25
1a John Gregory/Doug Eichner

Gregory: It was rough. We got a flat tire and I fell and hurt my arm. Doug started and I got on at mile 175 to finish. It was rougher than last year.

First Place Trophy Truck
3 Mark Post/Jerry Whelchel

Whelchel: Was a perfect ride, a great race.
Post: It was a good race. No problems. Halfway I got into the racecar. Jerry had a good run, caught up to Ragland 10-20 miles ago. Riviera racing did a great job. We had a solid truck. It was a very rough San Felipe course. We won overall in ’98 here in San Felipe. This is my favorite place. It was better the second time around.

Second Place Trophy Truck
66 Jason Baldwin

Jerry Whelchel and Mark Post did a very good job driving. It was a fast day. It was the roughest race and the course was extremely tough. Our only problem was the traffic in front of us. We had temperature problems in the beginning. The shocks were hot- Post then got by us. The shocks cooled down. Were hoping they wouldn’t break and they didn’t. We had a happy finish. We ran a good race.

First Place Class 1
103 Mark McMillin

Scott’s right behind. Think they’ve got me beat. Have a new car, a (Jimco) and drove solo with it. I haven’t been out of the car. The navigator, Cameron Parrish stated that it was an unbelievable good time.

Second Place Class 1
115 Andy McMillin/Scott McMillin

Andy:The car ran good all day but got a flat after Puertecito. It was changed in 4 ½ minutes. We were right behind Mark. We cooled it down and cruised it in. Dad started the race and I got in at mile 110. We had tranny problems last year in San Felipe. It feels good to be at the finish.

First Place Class 10
1002 Lobsam Yee/Eli Yee

Lobsam: We had one flat and lost the transmission at the corner of the finish line but we got here. Eli drove half of the race. I got in at mile 100 and drove to finish. It was a nice course. This is 3rd win in row for Eli.

First Place Class 8
801 Dave Raimonde/Jeff Geiser

Geiser: We had one flat but stayed up front all day. We kept moseying along and stayed up there. Dave started and I got in at mile 115. No problems for Dave-it ran smooth-he brought it to me. Good day. There was abrupt dirt out there-same stuff as last year but getting worse and worse, but it worked great. We stayed on top and went right through it. This was better than pre-running.

First Place SCORE Lite
1201 James Golden/Jason Hatz

Golden:I drove solo and only got one flat. We fueled at Borrego and overshot the pit. It was a good battle with car 1202. I tapped them but then never saw them again. Then just crossed the finish line.

First Place Class 5
504 Tom Brown

Just another day in paradise. I drove solo but had my passenger with me the whole time. We changed three tires and checked the oil pressure but other than that was trouble fee. The course gets rougher every year.
