2004 Tecate SCORE Baja 500

WHAT: 36th Annual Tecate SCORE Baja 500 Desert Race
Round 3, of the five-race 2004 SCORE Desert Series

WHEN: Friday, Saturday & Sunday June 4-6, 2004

WHERE: Ensenada-Baja California, Mexico (65 miles south of U.S./Mexico Border)

WHO: Over 280 entries from 15 U.S. States, Mexico, Canada and Japan

COURSE:
TOTAL MILEAGE:
428.52 miles (9 checkpoints)
Starts in downtown Ensenada adjacent to the Riviera Convention Center and finishes at Deportivo Antonio Palacios baseball stadium, 9th & Guadalupe Ave., in the heart of Ensenada. The course travels in a counter-clockwise direction, with the first 51.6 miles from the start to Tres Hermanos (17 miles south of Ojos Negros) being used both ways. From Tres Hermanos, the course heads west to Uruapan on Hwy 1 (K42), turning south for approximately six miles on pavement to Santo Tomas at rm 81.54 (Hwy 1, K51). The course then heads southwest for a picturesque, extended sprint south along the Pacific Ocean, turning east at rm 170.01 to cross Hwy 1 (K168). After this road crossing, the course makes a small loop on the east side of Hwy 1 to rm 223.8, just below Mision Santo Domingo. From there, the course winds in a northwesterly direction through Mike's Sky Rancho and down to rm 312.75 (Hwy 3, K126), for a short run on pavement to Valle De Trinidad (Hwy 3, K118). The course continues north, jumping off Hwy 3 and running parallel to the highway until crossing it heading northwest at rm 353.05 (Hwy 3, K77). The course then winds its way past Cerro Colorado to Tres Hermanos. After returning to Tres Hermanos at rm 379.5, the course heads north to Ojos Negros at rm 396.4 (Hwy 3, K39) and back to Ensenada over the first 51.6 miles of the course.
