2004 SCORE Manufacturer Points
Jimco leads SCORE Original Buggy Chassis, Major Performance
In front of pack in SCORE Engine Builder point standings

After 3 races, second is Fraley in Chassis/Patton in Engine,
Heading to 9th Annual SCORE Las Vegas Primm 300, Sept. 10-11

LOS ANGELES (June 29, 2004) -- Southern California's Jimco Racing Products and Major Performance Racing Engines continue to lead the SCORE Manufacturer Point Standings after three of five races in the 2004 SCORE Desert Series. Both based near San Diego in Santee, Jimco has a commanding lead in the SCORE Original Buggy hassis standings while Major Performance is in front of a much closer point race in the SCORE Engine Builder vision.

Jimco, a leading chassis builder in the sport, has already seen its vehicles record five class wins, nine seconds and seven thirds in the three SCORE races held so far in Laughlin, Nev., San Felipe, Mexico, and Ensenada, Mexico.

Major Performance, another long-time desert racing manufacturer, has built the engines for three class winners, two runnerups and four third place finishers.

After the Tecate SCORE Baja 500 in Ensenada (June 5-6), the world's foremost desert racing series has some time off before heading back to Southern Nevada, Sept. 10-11, for the 9th Annual SCORE Las Vegas Primm 300, in Primm, Nev., 35 miles south of Las Vegas.

Using a point stystem for just the second time in the 31-year history of SCORE International for the 2004 SCORE Manufacturer Point Standings, Jimco and Major Performance also won last year's point crowns in their respective divisions. Like the rest the annual SCORE Off-Roadsman Awards are still decided, the manufacturer awards were decided by vote of the SCORE membership until last year. Jimco has been voted SCORE Original Buggy Chassis manufacturer of the year nine times while Major Performance was voted the 1992 SCORE Engine Builder of the year before last year's point formula earned Major it's second title.

The SCORE Manufacturer Point Standings are based on up to the top three finishers in the eligible SCORE classes at each race. The points given are the same position points given to the driver of record, which are based both on the final finishing position and number of vehicles that started the race within each class.

Jimco, a second-generation company run by racer Mike Julson, has 562 points so far, while a distant second is Las Vegas' Fraley's Performance Engineering with 156, four more than Southern California's Dunrite chassis builders. Fourth with 73 points is Smithbuilt of Huntington Beach, Calif., while Mexico's Garibay chassis is fifth with 45.

Major Peformance, owned by veteran Ken Major, has 242 points through three races, with Leon Patton second with 213. In third place, with 208 points, is FAT Performance of Orange, Calif., while fourth is HP Engine of El Cajon, Calif., with 99 and Las Vegas' Kroyer Racing Engines completes the top five with 84.

Among the top SCORE drivers racing in Jimco open-wheel desert race cars this season have been Southern California's Andy McMillin (Poway), John Marking (El Cajon) and Chuck Hovey (Escondido), who are the top three point leaders in the unlimited Class 1; Mark Hutchins (Henderson, Nev.)., who leads Class 10 and Tom Watson (El Centro, Calif.), who is the current point leader in the SCORE Lite class.

Among the top SCORE drivers using Major Performance engines this year have been Watson, who uses a Major built VW engine in SCORE Lite, John Cooley (Santee, Calif.), who uses a Major built VW engine in Class 10 and James Golden (Costa Mesa, Calif.), who uses a Major built VW engine in SCORE Lite.

Las Vegas' Rob MacCachren in Class 1-2/1600 is the top Fraley-chassis racer with two wins so far, while SCORE Trophy-Truck point leader Mark Post (San Juan Capistrano, Calif.) is the top Patton racer, using a Patton built Ford V8 racing engine in his Ford F-150. Post has one win and one second in three races so far.

The computerized drawing for starting positions, by class, for the upcoming 9th Annual SCORE Las Vegas Primm 300 will be held Saturday, August 7, at the SCORE headquarters in Los Angeles.

The 9th Annual SCORE Las Vegas Primm 300 expects to have over 150 vehicles competing in 17 Pro and 2 Sportsman classes for cars and trucks in Primm.
