Prelude to SCORE race LOS ANGELES (September 2, 2004) -- As a colorful prelude to next Saturday's 9th annual SCORE Las Vegas Primm 300, a special Dust to Glory pre-launch party will be held next Friday in the Star of the Desert Arena in Primm. With free admission, the Dust to Glory pre-launch party will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the arena, which is located at Buffalo Bill's Resort in Primm. IFC Films, the North American distributor for Dana Brown's homage to desert racing's premiere event—the Tecate SCORE Baja 1000--titled Dust to Glory, will host the function, which is open to the general public in addition to the few thousand participants (drivers and crews) who will be in Primm next weekend for Round 4 of the five-race 2004 SCORE Desert Series. Next Saturday's race already has a race record 176 entries with late entries accepted up until next Saturday's event. "Momentum is definitely building for next spring's world premiere of Dust to Glory, and this pre-launch event at Primm will give the public and our SCORE racing family an even greater appetite for the film's actual release," said Sal Fish, SCORE CEO and President. "It's also an opportunity, in the relaxed pre-race atmosphere at Primm, to learn more about this epic desert production as well as meet and greet the SCORE racers up close." Available at the function will be the official Dust to Glory film poster, and SCORE officials and racers will be available for autographs. The event's schedule will include remarks from Sal Fish, a top SCORE racer, an IFC Films representative along with a member of the film's production team. Also, the movie's official trailer will be shown along with a short subject piece on the making of the movie, with locations shots from last year's Tecate SCORE Baja 1000. Often referred to as "the most famous race that no one has ever seen," Dust to Glory, re-teams Step Into Liquid producers C. Rich Wilson and Scott Waugh of BronWa Pictures with Producer and SCORE Baja racing champion, Mike McCoy to help Dana capture the legendary Tecate SCORE Baja 1000 on film. "I have seen raw footage, historical footage as well as a preliminary edited version of Dust to Glory, and I left the viewing speechless…it was so magnificent," said Fish, who has started his fourth decade running SCORE. The sprawling, ambitious film used more than 50 cameras, 4 helicopters, a four passenger open-wheel desert race car camera vehicle and a crew of over 80 to film the longest continuous point-to-point race in the world, which takes place each November in the mysterious and foreboding desert of Mexico's Baja Peninsula. Also contributing to Dust to Glory are SCORE's Sal Fish, Director of Photography Kevin Ward, and Associate Producer Marty Fiolka. In addition to more than 200 hours of footage from the 2003 Tecate SCORE Baja 1000, Dust to Glory also features archival footage from the inaugural desert race 37 years ago, which attracted such luminaries as Steve McQueen and James Garner. The footage was supplied by Bruce Brown, the famed director of Endless Summer and On any Sunday, who is part of the production team and the filmmaker's father.
