Henderson’s Terrible 300 offers much more than just a race
Top companies, vendors, entertainment to line downtown Henderson

HENDERSON, NV -- The Water Street District in Downtown Henderson will be turned into a race lover’s paradise for five hours on Friday, December 3, for the “technical and contingency” portion of Henderson’s Terrible 300 Desert Race festivities. The race will be held the following day on Saturday, Dec. 4.

Dozens of top-name companies and vendors will park their 18-wheel display trucks along Water Street – between Basic Road and Atlantic Avenue – as the street will be closed to traffic from 4-9 p.m. Teams participating in the Henderson’s Terrible 300 will push their vehicles down Water Street readying for technical inspections and the opportunity to try innovative after-market race equipment offered by the contingency companies.

“The day before an off-road race is an important and exciting day for both racers and spectators,” said Jim Conner, contingency director for Best in the Desert Racing Association, the promoter of the race. “This is the only time that racers, mechanics, car owners, sponsors, contingency companies and off-road merchandisers are together in one place.”

Technical inspection and contingency are an important part of the race experience. Race officials must inspect all cars before the race to ensure safety requirements are met and that no one vehicle has an advantage of winning over the other vehicles in the same class. Also, representatives from various racing suppliers will meet with drivers in order to establish a contingency prize for the winning driver who uses their products on their vehicles.

To make tech and contingency more exciting to spectators, contingency companies such as Ford Motor Company, Toyota Racing Development, Goodyear Tires and K & N Filters will display their parts, allowing fans to purchase after-market products for their own cars, trucks, motorcycles and ATVs. Vendors also will line the street selling food, drinks, t-shirts and other race related products as fans get to meet the drivers and get an up-close look at the race vehicles.

Two bands, TJ Weaver and Licketty Split, will be performing live and FMX Underground, extreme motorcycle free-style stunt performers, will also provide entertainment throughout the evening. All race events, including tech and contingency, are open to the public and free to attend.

The Henderson’s Terrible 300 race, which is sponsored by the Henderson Convention and Visitors Bureau, Herbst Gaming and the city of Boulder City, will take place in the Eldorado Valley located between Henderson and Boulder City. It will be made up of two courses – one for motorcycles and ATV’s and one for cars and trucks – running in a figure-eight style. The start-finish line will be positioned off of Nevada Highway 95, near the Railroad Pass exit, so spectators will be able to view both races at the same time.

This year’s Henderson’s Terrible 300 will be the final and deciding race of the Best in the Desert Racing Association’s six-race series in the southwest.
