Ticket sales solid for July 29-30 LOS ANGELES, CA -- Spotlighting the best of SCORE desert racing, official entry forms have been released and the race format and event schedule have been announced for July’s SCORE Las Vegas Terrible’s Cup I. Starting Friday and concluding Monday, May 2 will be the advance entry registration window for the limited-field invitational to be held July 29-30 at the world-class Dirt Track at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. With maximum entry fields of 24 vehicles in four of five different groups, racing will begin at 7 p.m. each night at LVMS and both nights will conclude with elaborate Terrible’s Fireworks Shows.
With each paid admission will also come one coupon for the free drawing for the SCORE Terrible’s Fan Appreciation giveaway. A new showroom SUV, donated by Terrible’s, will be given away on Saturday night (July 30) at LVMS. As a prelude to the two days of racing, the SCORE Pit Stop at Fremont Street Experience will be held on Thursday, July 28. At the SCORE Pit Stop, starting at 6 p.m., will be a vehicle display and $10,000 SCORE Pit Crew Challenge for SCORE Trophy-Trucks, meet the SCORE racers party for all competing SCORE racers and a concert under the canopy on Fremont Street. With co-title sponsorship from Las Vegas Events and Terrible’s Convenience Stores, the SCORE Las Vegas Terrible’s Cup I will feature two nights of racing on the LVMS Dirt Track. Racing will be on a purpose-built race track with limited pavement and man-made dirt simulations of the rugged desert terrain. “Momentum has already been building for this exciting new event and now that we have identified the classes running, format and race schedule, interest will reach even higher levels,” said Sal Fish, CEO/President of Los Angeles-based SCORE International, which is in its 32nd year of producing championship desert racing. “Working with Las Vegas Events and Terrible’s Convenience Stores as co-sponsors and marketing partners, and with a world-class venue like Las Vegas Motor Speedway to showcase our SCORE desert racers at, we believe this event will be successful right from the very first year. With the ever-shrinking desert lands becoming an increasing issue for open desert racing, this Las Vegas event is truly SCORE’s test track for the future.” After 11-plus years of rumbling around rugged desert race courses in the Southwestern U.S. and Baja California, Mexico, SCORE Trophy-Trucks--the untamed 800-horsepower, unlimited production trucks that are the featured racing division in the SCORE Desert Series--will make their short-course stadium racing debut in July at LVMS. “Ric Miller (SCORE Director of Event Operations) has helped us select the classes for this year and the racing format that we know will help introduce SCORE desert racing to an expanded audience in a fan-friendly environment,” added Fish. As many as 25 of these exotic, technologically-advanced desert race trucks are expected to be in Las Vegas, and many will be co-sponsored for the event by various Southern Nevada resort properties.
The two groups with multiple classes will have a handicapped start, to be determined during practice at LVMS on race day. Vehicles that have competed in at least two SCORE long course events within the past two years are eligible to enter. Additionally, SCORE Trophy-Trucks will have a few additional technical requirements including running a minimum size tire of 37”, minimum of 5,000 pounds in weight and a minimum fuel capacity of 45 gallons. All other SCORE 2003-2006 Off-Road Racing Rules and Regulations will be in place for this event. “Our goal from the beginning of this event has been to showcase the best of SCORE desert racing,” said Fish, “so no purpose-built or special short-course vehicles will be eligible to race with us in Las Vegas.” With specific plans being finalized, the SCORE Las Vegas Terrible’s Cup I will be televised nationally on a cable network. The new SCORE event falls on an off-weekend for NASCAR. Excepted to compete in Las Vegas are second-generation desert racers Robby Gordon, Casey Mears and Brendan Gaughan. The Las Vegas Ed and Tim Herbst, are the all-time winningest team in SCORE Trophy-Truck history. Splitting the driving time in their No. 19 Terrible Herbst Motorsports Ford F-150, Ed, 43, and Tim, 41, have 11 career wins in SCORE Trophy-Truck, and four of the 11 season championships (1999, 2000, 2002, 2003).
The early-bird sale for the two SCORE Super Pass reserved-seat packages continues on-line. Special SCORE Super Pass packages, including a reserved seat and pit pass for both nights in the Blue VIP Section are $39 each. The SCORE Super Pass package for the Red Section will include a reserved seat and pit pass for both nights in the Red Section, will be $34 each. The regular price for each of these packages is $69 for the Blue VIP reserved seating area and $59 for the White reserved seating area.
